Skin Game" is the second book of the Max Collins trilogy of books that expand upon Dark Angel universe. It continues where the series left off and does in my opinion a good job.
You can read the publisher's blurb to get more of the specifics.
I just want to say that if you enjoyed the series you will probably enjoy this book to some degree. I don't think it is perfect, but I like how the story deepens the relationship between Max and Logan which was one of the main appeals of the show. Any flaws I found were trivial to me , except for the swearing more than I like. Overall, I consider this a worthy continuation of an excellent series. Mass Market Paperback Verified Purchase. Although it doesn't provide all of the answers to all of the pressing questions that left you hangin at the untimely end of the awesome television series, this book provides another good chapter for what would have been another good episode.
TRUE, the author seems to have missed the fact that Logan can walk due to his latest transgenic blood transfusion, which everyone else brought up as well, but whatever.
I read the entire book in less than a week, which tells myself that I enjoyed it and was engaged in the story. It provides closure to at least the trouble the transgenics were in at the end of "Freak Nation" having been surrounded by the police and military and the first step to curing the Max-Logan virus, although you don't really see it at the time. The book's weakest aspect, in my mind, was that the author spent an entire chapter repeating the events at the end of the "Freak Nation" episode that most who read the book would already know and would find boring.
Because I needed a Dark Angel fix, I crossed my fingers, hoped for the best and bought the two books. I was very, very disappointed. I felt as though this book and the other were nothing more than authorized fan-fiction rather than a professionally written story involving my beloved characters. It didn't help that the author either overlooked or completely ignored a detail only to use it in the plot here and there Logan did not require the exo-suit.
He regained the use of his legs thanks to Joshua's infusion and still used the exo-skeleton to enhance his ability as Phil did. Also, the descriptions and back-story were too overt, jarring you from the flow of the story.
Although the story was interesting, it lacked depth and since the show's episodes were deep and rich with side stories and info, you would think that a book would have that and more.
Overall, if you're looking for the last two episodes of the series to give closure, don't spend your money. Either borrow this book from your local library or read fan-fic from a fan-fiction site.
This way the disappointment won't be followed by resentment for spending money on it! It was a good read and I would read it again. It was a story that reminded why I loved the show. This novel takes place somewhere in the middle of Season 2, by my best estimate. Creepy, but if you like the series, you'll like it. One person found this helpful. This novel reads like bad fan fiction, and that's saying something.
The prose is awkward, stilted, and awash with trying-too-hard descriptive phrases and random swearing. I'm a fan of profanity in literature when it fits, but when it's written as a tough-the-character-up tactic it never fails to underwhelm.
In short, if you're desperate for an ending like I was, just be prepared to wade through the mire of sub-par writing.

Someone is killing normal humans in the fog-enshrouded city of Seattle. The murders are brutal and grisly, but inside Terminal City they barely cause a ripple of concern. The transgenics who live there have problems of their own. In an area under siege by the oppressive arm of the police, the transgenics must protect their fledgling colony against the outside world—a world that eyes them with contempt and suspicion. As the killings escalate, Joshua comes to Max with a dire suspicion: Tensions are high between normal humans and transgenics, and many inside the protected City would just as soon let the humans fend for themselves.
Yet Max and her inner circle know they must investigate the crimes and stop the bloodshed.
Doing nothing would simply give the normals more reasons to hate. But what they discover will shock even the most jaded among them—and expose a sinister agenda that leads to an old, nefarious foe.
