Fully illustrated with compelling full-color and black-and-white photographs, the book takes us from the jungles of Myanmar, where ancient pagodas point heavenward in the unmistakable shape of spacecraft, to Portugal's mysterious legend of Fatima and on to the unexplained "landing strips" of Peru and Egypt, offering persuasive evidence that actual living beings inspired the legends that became the basis for many of our religious traditions.

Intellectually challenging and provocative, these findings shake the foundations of both science and faith.

Erich Von Daniken Chariots of the Gods Espaol PDF

Read this when I was 13 and I was wildly fascinated. I senced there had to be something wrong about his assertions, but nevertheless they were very appealing. Getting older, I saw it was all nonsense, but of a very entertaining kind, and thus very dangerous. Apr 26, dragonhelmuk rated it really liked it. Amazing book, much better written than the average ufo style. This is the authors second main book on the subject.

The book is split into three parts. He is quite convincing that miracles have taken place. Unfortunately his argument about what that means is completely unsustainable, but nevermind. The real fun comes in the third part. The author runs through Sanskrit literature and points out all the many occurances of vimanas of which there are hundreds. His own Sanskrit is a bit subpar, but his conclusions using translations are fair.

The speculation is just so much fun genuinely , whether you believe a word of it to be true or not. He looks at various archaeological sites in Asia and South America, points out the strange abundance of quicksilver and how it was transported.

Unfortunately he stops at this point, just when the story is at its most fun — I would appreciate suggestions about other nonfiction books which speculate about alien technologies and motives, especially with a touch of conspiracy, so if anyone can suggest any, please leave a comment. Three quotes to illustrate: In the Vymaanika-Shaastra, an ancient collection of different texts, the following technologies are described: Sanskrit scholar Professor Dr Kanjilal cites the following old sources that report on terrible weapons The principles of the construction of flying machines are explained in lines in the Samarangana Sutradhara of Bhoja.

They are described as being unusually manoeuvrable, rather like our helicopters. They can hover on the spot in the air, fly round the Earth or beyond.

The descriptions are insufficient to reconstruct a copy of the vehicle now, but there was methodology in them, even then. The unknown author remarked, thousands of years ago, that he was not doing this out of lack of knowledge, but to avoid misuse.

Mastery of air and space was not just restricted to the chosen few in those days. We read: The body must be constructed so that it is strong and durable. Out of lightweight metal [mica is mentioned, EvD]. The power residing in mercury, which is set in motion by the driving force of the whirlwind, enables a human being to travel great distances in the heavens in a wonderful manner.

Likewise, a vimana [ancient Indian name for a flying vehicle] can be constructed, so it is as large as the temple for the 'God-in-motion. When the latter are heated up by regulated fire in the iron containers, the vimana will develop the power of thunder through the mercury, and it will soon appear like a pearl in the sky.

Archaeology is a dyed-in-the-wool conservative branch of research, carried out by witty, humorous scientists, for the most part with great integrity. Inevitably, at their universities they are required to swat up on the homogenous mix of teaching that stubbornly orientates itself on the evolutionary principle.

Everything has developed slowly, constantly, one thing after the other. Jun 28, Vicki rated it really liked it. I love reading Daniken. Jan 25, Nick rated it it was amazing. My mind is officially blown.

Erich von Daniken

One of Daniken's books about possible visits from extra terrestrials. May 24, Katherine rated it liked it Shelves: An interesting concept that was entertaining to read. Aug 04, William Wehling rated it really liked it. The vast majority of the points raised in this book can be found in Chariots of the Gods as well, which was a much better read.

That being said, this book reads quite quickly and is enjoyable. Want to read more of from Erich Von Daniken's researches to further understand and get free my own mind from being manipulated by religious who turn in another side which beneficial to their own from the facts in the past. Apr 19, Mark Geise rated it liked it. I'm giving this three stars for creativity and imagination, but it is pretty dated now.

Also, I would have preferred if the majority of the book was about the inconsistencies that he writes about for the second half of the book.

The first half of the book is about von Daniken's vision for the future of space travel and technology, which, while interesting to follow his thought process 45 years ago, I probably could have done without.

That would have been fascinating to read about in , but no I'm giving this three stars for creativity and imagination, but it is pretty dated now. That would have been fascinating to read about in , but not in Von Daniken presents a litany of oddities in ruins and in the artifacts found throughout the world and speculates on possibilities that would fit his theory.

His theory is that astronauts from other planets visited earth and were responsible for the vast increases in human intelligence and technology over the last several thousand years. He relies primarily on three sources of evidence: He does a pretty decent job of weaving together evidence from all over the world, though the text can seem both rambling and fragmented at the same time.

My two biggest criticisms of this book are the beginning half where von Daniken discusses his vision of the future and his descriptions of artifacts.

Rather than give a description of the artifact and then present his speculation about what it could be, he presents his speculation as the description. I understand that he is attempting to fit all of this evidence to his theory, but some of his descriptions especially when there aren't any accompanying pictures in some chapters are lacking in my opinion. All in all, it was interesting to read one of the original ancient astronaut theory books.

Von Daniken brings up some good points and asks a lot of questions that not enough people are asking. I like seeing people challenge the "common" wisdom, which is exactly what von Daniken has done throughout his lifetime.

This is a quick read, so I didn't feel like I wasted a lot of time laboring through some of the weaker sections of Gods from Outer Space. While Chariots of the Gods grabbed my imagination as a 10 yr old. As an adult reading Return to Space I cannot help but notice where he miss represents science using the difficulty of using carbon 14 dating on item under yrs old due to accuracy errors that exist over short time lines to throw doubt on the long time line dating using carbon 14 were it is quite accurate with a error range of a couple of hundred years.

The Dropa Stone Discs, which were considered a fake even when the book was published in Still an interesting read as it is a great look at how a far a person will reach to make evidence fit their argument or preconceived idea. I give it 3 out of 5 Ancient Astronauts.

Feb 15, Dan Beliveau rated it it was ok. More of the same speculations made by von Daniken. No real proof is offered. I did think that the speculations of , presented in this book were surprisingly accurate; sadly those for were not.

Jul 10, Jenna Mills rated it it was ok. Again, so many claims that are not substantiated once a quick google search is carried out. This means that I couldn't believe any of his so-called evidence.

The parts I did find interesting were his quotes from the Old Testement since I've read parts of it and is interesting to look at it from a different point of view - who knows, perhaps there could be something in it? I would consider this more of a primer to the idea of the human race being seeded by space aliens, than a definitive non-fiction work.

I got a little tired of von Danike constantly saying, "Well, since everybody else has wild theories about things, let me throw one of my wild theories at you", then proceeding as if that is gospel. Entertaining, but not thought-provoking. May 16, Shweta rated it really liked it. I loved this book.
